Out of Gas Policy
We are in the bussiness to supply you with dependable service and a safe enviroment for our customers and employees. We realize that there are times, which you may run out of gas unexpectedly. This can create an unsafe enviroment for you and our propane drivers.
If you experience a situation where you run out of propane, you should:
- Close the service valve on the propane storage tank.
- Shut off all appliance valves.
- Call your propane supplier (Farmers Cooperative Association) immediately.
It is important that you are present at the building site with the propane system in, so that we can do a leak check of the whole system and put the system back into service. When propane delivery is to be made and no one is present, or if we cannot enter the building or if previous arrangements haven't been made, we will not fill the tank and there will be an extra charge for a second trip as explained below. The driver will leave an "Out of Gas Tag" and you will be instructed to call us.
The following is a list of charges for an "Out of Gas" situation:
Customers on scheduled deliveries..............................................NO Charge
Customers on Will Call or C.O.D. accounts:
Third time "Out of Gas" .....................................................................propane tank will be removed
After normal business hours or weekends...................................$100 delivery service fee - plus cost of propane
Pressure Testing & System Checks...............................................$25.00
The above fees do not include charges for repairs & time for an out-of-gas system pressure and leak test. See "Pressure Testing and System Checks" for more information.
Pressure Testing and System Checks
Accidents can result from the failure to perform complete system pressure tests from the propane tank to the system pilot orfices. Farmers Cooperative Association must verify the integrity of the customer's propane gas system with a pressure test and leak check as defined by NPGA Technical Assistance Bulletin T403, and document the results. The following situations call for a system check:
- New System or New Customer
- Occupancy Change
- System Interruption (making repairs or modifications, changing regulators, turning off the gas, ect.) This includes any "Out of Gas" situations.
- Suspected Leak
The following section from the National Fuel Gas Code describes the procedures to be followed by any qualified person servicing a system for gas utilization:
4.2 System and Equipment Leakage Test
4.2.1 Before Turning Gas On. Before gas is introduced into ta system of new gas piping, or back into an existing
system after being shut off, the entire system shall be inspected to determine that there are no open
fittings or ends and that all manual valves on equipment are closed and all unused outlets are closed
and plugged or capped.
4.2.2 Test for Leakage. Immediately after turning on the gas, the piping system shall be tested to ascertain that
no gas is escaping. If leakage is indicated, the gas supply shall be shut off until necessary repairs
have been made.
4.2.3 Placing Equipment in Operation. Gas utilization equipment shall be permitted to be placed in operation
after the piping system has been tested and determined to be free of leakage and purged in accordance
with 4.3.2.
